Voting… like giving… is not required.
And those who say it is have bought the lie. The lie that by this act, we actually have a choice, a say.
But when we place our ballot into that box, like placing an offering into a plate, the initiation of the lie persists.
It’s the lie that our work is done. That it somehow ends at that moment of placement. It’s the lie that now, because we released that slip, that vote into the world, that now, things will be better, things will change. That now we can exhale.
Really … it’s just the beginning.
Venturing to cast our vote into the world is not required, and is not the choice we think it is.
It is a commitment however. It is a commitment that we will begin the work. Start the ACTUAL work that it will take to fulfill what that piece of paper seemingly promises to.
The paper is a lie. The act of casting the paper is a lie. Unfortunately, sometimes, even the person that paper supports is a lie.
But our two hands, with rolled up sleeves, ready to do what that paper represents for us, are not. #beyondthevote
