Yes, we all want it. But do we have it?
We don’t only want skill on our side, we want more… we want the “right stuff” … especially, if we’re in it to win it. But what is the right stuff?
The right stuff is to be positioned to do the right thing, at the right time, when somebody else needs it most.
Well, perhaps that does take a little bit of skill. While were dissecting this, we may as well just say that two other things that are quite possibly needed in order to produce the “right stuff,” include: the “place” we’re in and the “thing” we offer. Both have the ability to add value and higher potential to our success, don’t they?
So the equation goes: Right Stuff = Skill, Place, and Thing… That sounds about right, doesn’t it?
Solomon says in Ecclesiastes:
“I have observed something else under the sun. The fastest runner doesn’t always win the race, and the strongest warrior doesn’t always win the battle. The wise sometimes go hungry, and the skillful are not necessarily wealthy. And those who are educated don’t always lead successful lives. It is all decided by chance, by being in the right place at the right time.”
It would seem that based on Solomon’s observation, being in the right place at the right time stands alone as the deciding factor to one’s success… chance alone.
If this is true then we must ask the question: What or rather Who determines chance?
OK, so maybe the equation looks more like: The Right Stuff= Being in good graces with the Determiner of Chance.
