Love And Rescue

Anyone can say they love… something, or perhaps someone.

But not everyone can show it. Love involves sacrifice. It’s not what we’ve been taught. In fact, it’s the exact opposite.

We’ve been taught that love is that cushy, comfy feeling we get when the object of our affection is in the room. It’s that place we can just be raptured.

But if we’re listening, and we must be listening, Love is calling us to more than this. It’s possibly challenging us. Asking us to take the next step. Beyond luck, beyond faith, beyond dreaming… Even beyond hope.

After all, mere hope is not the way. If we were talking about heaven, Jesus would be. But we’re not talking about heaven, are we? So, what are we talking about? We are talking about love. While we’re living on this green earth, we are going to need it. And most likely, not the cushy type.

Rapper, songwriter ‘LL Cool J’ wrote a song entitled: “I need love” some years ago (more like decades now:). Isn’t this the cry of humanity? We don’t need anyone telling us that everything’s going to work out. We need people there, willing to step in, when it doesn’t ‘work out,’ whatever that may look like. Are we ready to take that most pressing step?

“Whoever shuts their ears to the cry of the poor will also cry out and not be answered.” -Prov 21:13
